My journey into the world of blue pottery began with a chance meeting that sparked a passion. It all started (2019) when a friend introduced me to someone who was successfully selling Multani Blue Pottery online. His stunning product photography resonated with me deeply, and I knew I had found something special.

A few months later, I met him again and expressed my interest in the blue pottery business. We decided to become partners. He sourced beautiful pottery from a vendor, and I took charge of photographing and listing the products on our website. However, despite our enthusiasm, we struggled to make a single sale in six months due to our busy schedules.

Determined to make a difference, I decided to launch my own brand, ORM Handicraft, and focused on digital marketing. The response was incredible, and business started to boom. However, our vendor couldn't keep up with the demand, and I realized that managing the business alongside my digital marketing firm was overwhelming.

Driven by a vision to create something truly unique, I decided to take control of the production process. I established (2021) a factory near my home, starting from scratch. The journey was anything but smooth. Blue pottery production is intricate and fraught with challenges. I began with manufacturing white ceramic pots, inspired by Chinese and Indian industries, but faced numerous hurdles, including acquiring molds and professional labor.

After six months of struggling with little production results, I finally hired an expert in the field and began producing white pots. However, I quickly realized that this market required more time to develop. I returned to my primary passion: to produce Multani Blue Pottery Production.

Securing a skilled Kashigar (artisan) was a significant challenge, but after much effort, I successfully established a blue pottery production setup. Each month brought its own set of challenges, from managing production and factory expenses to ensuring timely salaries and effective marketing.

Through all these hurdles, I wore many hats, working tirelessly in all departments to ensure the success of "HMB Pottery". (previously "ORM Handicraft")

Doing It Myself, 2021 to 2022

These photographs are from February 2022, at the factory I had set up the year before. Skilled labour was the hardest part to arrange, and on the days nobody came the work still had to be done. So I did it myself: setting the moulds, opening them once the piece had set, lifting each cast body out and trimming it by hand, then lining everything up on the bench to dry.

Casting is where every piece of blue pottery starts. Get the mould wrong and nothing later in the process can rescue it. Learning that stage with my own hands is the reason I can still look at a finished piece and tell you where it went wrong.
